Golfing vacations encapsulate spending ample time amidst beautiful surroundings, soaking up the sun and, of course playing lots of golf. Whether you are an avid golfer or a novice, a golf vacation is something well worth considering.
Unless you’re a devoted golfer, a golfing vacation might seem like a tedious activity that requires a lot of accessories and things. However, even novices can enjoy a golf vacation. We’ve provided a few tips for your next golf vacation, to make it a perfect one.

Picking the Right Golf Destination: Though it may sound very tempting to arrange a golf package that allows you to play in some of the same courses that the pros play every year, before rushing out and making your reservations, consider how your skill level and budget.
- If you are a novice, you might want to stick with golf destinations that aren’t renowned for world class golfing, consider leisure golf destinations
- If you’re on a budget, while Scotland, the home of golfing might seem alluring, it might be too costly.
- Consider these golf destinations, Atlanta, Colorado Springs, Hilton head, Myrtle Beach, Pebble Beach and Pinehurst, to name a few.
Booking In Advance: The general rule when traveling is to book flights, hotels and cars at least 21 days in advance. The same applies for a golf vacation.
- Booking as early as possible, even 2-months in advance, can ensure that you reserve space on the golf course and avoid unavailability.
- When picking a hotel, make sure that it is near or on the golf course you intend to play at.
- Consider a golf resort, there are many to choose from
- If you’re on a budget, there are great hotels close to golf resorts that you intend to play at. Be sure to find out what the daily/weekly rates are for playing.
- If you’re renting equipment and, or need a caddy or golf cart, find out what the rates are in advance and if you need to book early to reserve your space.

Consider your Budget: Do consider your budget before booking your golf vacation. The budget you choose or have to stick with plays an important role in selecting the golf course where you want to play at.
- The more expensive the course, the better and more luxurious it will be. However, before choosing the costliest option, find out about off-peak rates and weekend specials or discounts.
- You’ll need to make sure that the courses you plan to visit are open to the public and are within your budget; the price range for greens fees can vary widely, even between courses in the same area.
Gear Requirements and Packing Check Lists: Golf enthusiasts tend to bring their own equipment. However, novices might not have equipment, as they are more new to the game. Renting equipment might be the best option.

Other Considerations: If you are traveling with your family, chances are, not everyone is a golfing fan. Remember that the vacation is meant for everyone. So keep these points in mind before embarking on your vacation and do some research to find out what’s available for your family to do while you’re golfing.
- Find out if the golf resort you’re staying at or spending time at offers other things for non-golfers.
- Find out if the hotel you’re staying at is close to shopping malls and attractions.
