When families travel especially when booking flights with kids, looking for family friendly airlines tops parents’ "To Do" list.
In the below family friendly airlines article, we’ve highlighted just a few. However, there are so many great, family friendly airlines. We encourage you to do your due diligence by visiting airline websites you’d like to travel with. Many have sections dedicated to family travelers.

American Airlines: Whether you're hitting the beach, going to the city or heading for the mountains, American Airlines is definitely a good choice for air travel with your family.
- Diaper Changers: Changing tables are available in the lavatories of all wide body aircrafts.
- Though the airlines have discontinued the practice of providing baby food, bottles and other related items, baby bottles can be heated on all flights operated by American Airlines.
- Parents may wish to pack an audio headset for their children to use in-flight. Headsets may also be purchased onboard for $2 and kept for future use.
- Pre-boarding for families with young children falls under priority boarding.
Lufthansa: Lufthansa has created special programs and guides to ensure that they effectively cater to families traveling with them.
- The Lufthansa guide from the Lufthansa Family Service is a huge hit amongst family travelers. The guide helps with check-in, with an explanation about the security regulations; accompanying them to their gate and, on landing, to baggage reclaim. Additionally, the guide offers family friendly restaurants, hotels and car rental companies.
- With Lufthansa, families with children are among the first passengers to board the aircraft. The flight attendants are helpful and attentive in locating your seats, stowing your baggage and assisting with fastening children's seatbelts.
- Lufthansa carries baby food on all its flights. The flight attendants can assist with warming bottles. Well-known chefs have been creating children’s menus for Lufthansa since 2002.
- A coloring book with colored crayons and puzzles, as well as card games and memory games with Lu and Cosmo motif, to collect and play with make a flight with Lufthansa an unforgettable experience for children.
Air Canada: Air Canada is a premier airline, especially when it comes to flying with your family. The plethora of amenities offered by Air Canada ensures that you have a great, relaxing flight.
- Formula, breast milk, juice, baby food and temperature-sensitive medications are permitted in carry-on baggage and may be refrigerated on board, free of charge.
- Infants and children's meals are available, only on International flights and in Executive Class within North America. An infant meal consists of strained fruits, vegetables, meats and desserts. Also the airlines have special children's meals for children two years of age and older.
- All the aircrafts except Dash 8s have diaper-changing tables in the lavatories.
- Bassinets may be provided in Economy Class for certain aircrafts.
Southwest Airlines: With flights to nearly 59 cities in 31 states, an award-winning customer service program and discounted fares for kids, low-cost carrier Southwest is one of the top choices for families.
- The airlines offer affordable Infant fares that enable a customer to reserve a seat for an infant and use his/her FAA approved car seat.
- Southwest does not offer in-flight meals or entertainment, but the extra effort put in by the airline employees makes flying as painless as possible.
Continental Airlines: Continental Airlines is another family friendly airline.
- Continental offers bassinets on select international/ transcontinental flights for infants weighing 22 lbs or less. Bassinets should be requested at the time your reservation is made, as quantities are limited.
- Changing tables are available on certain types of aircraft.
- Parents with infants are prioritized for bulkhead seats.
- Special meal can be ordered for children from two to 12 years of age and include items that are generally appealing to children. The meals planned for Continental follow the Recommended Dietary Allowances for children.
United Airlines: United operates an extensive domestic route network concentrated in the Midwest and western United States. It is the leading US carrier to Hawaii and the largest to Asia and Australia. With its family friendly policies, United is definitely is a great choice for families.
- For travel within the U.S., between the U.S. and Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, and between the U.S. and Canada, infants are not required to occupy a seat.
- Bassinets are provided, free of charge, on all international aircraft.
- Strollers may be checked-in without a fee, in addition to your normal baggage allowance.
- Children's meals are available for children who are 18 months or older and who occupy a seat. The meals contain soft, chewable foods and may include finger foods.
Alaska Airlines: Alaska Airlines with its occasional "Kids Fly Free” package to the Disneyland Resort is a perfect choice for families.
- Lap infants traveling to an international destination (outside of North America) must be ticketed at 10% of the accompanying adult's fare.
- The in-flight entertainment has a range of cartoon shows to keep kids occupied throughout the duration of your flight.
