Getting a good airfare deal online usually takes planning, but there are a few Web sites aimed at the impulsive traveler.
Web sites such as travelzoo, CheapOair, 11thhourvacations, lastminute and lastminutetravel offer flight, hotel and car packages at discount rates. The sites help fill planes and hotel rooms by matching them up with flexible travelers.
At Travelocity's soon-to-be-merged site59.com and lastminute.com, domestic flights can be booked within three hours and international trips within five hours.
"We work with a variety of trusted partners to negotiate the best prices available on their unsold inventory and we sell their inventory in a package," said company spokeswoman Giovanna Garlati.
"That way, you get a great deal on a weekend experience, and they don't have to let the seat, room or car go empty," Garlati said.
A recent visit to the site found three-day packages from New York to Fort Lauderdale starting at $226 and to London at $721 - provided the traveler could leave that day.
Site59 offers only package deals, meaning flights must be booked with lodging and/or transportation. |
