Flights to Cancun Cancun is located on the Yucatan Channel that separates Mexico from the island of Cuba in the Greater Antilles. The Cancun region is sometimes known as the Mexican Caribbean. Cancun itself was built on a site selected as the ideal spot for a new tourist development by the Mexican government.

It is comprised of fourteen miles of pristine white beaches shaped like a number "7", home to Mayan archaeological wonders, turquoise seas, a bountiful underwater world, and world-class vacation amenities. It is still considered the gateway to the Mayan World.

Much of the coastline around Cancun is dominated by hotel resorts, which line the white sandy beachfronts and overlook the sea. The Hotel Zone, referred to as the 'Zona Hotelera' is where the majority of the hotels and apartment blocks are based in Cancun.

Geography:
Climate: Contrary to other tropical zones, Cancun does not have a specific rainy season and the constant breeze makes it an extremely pleasant place, even during the summer. The average temperature is 80F.

High season runs from December to April; low season extends from May to December, when airfare prices drop to 10% to 30%.

The butterfly pavilion is home to hundreds of butterflies. At the Orchids Greenhouse one can see the beautiful colors and shapes of the mystic flowers.

    Garrafon: The natural park of Garrafon is located in Isla Mujeres and offers preview to natural beauties and fascinating adventures.

    Xel-Ha: Xel-Ha is a natural aquarium, one of the world’s most beautiful, where you can swim and snorkel amongst hundreds of unique fish.

    Archaeological Sites:
    El Meco: El Meco, located in northern Cancun in Mujeres Bay, played an important part in communication with Isla Mujeres and belongs to the Post classic period. It is considered the departure point for the Mayas sailing to the island.

    El Rey: El Rey is an extremely small ruin. It is a nice remembrance of who originally occupied this land. The main reason to visit the ruin is for the hundreds of iguanas that flee the grand hotels and find refuge here in the quiet and little visited ruins.

    Golfing Sites: Riviera Cancun: Two brand new golf courses can be found at the Riviera Cancun with the famous Jack Niklaus Signature design. With Par 72 and undulating fairways at the edge of the turquoise Caribbean sea , it promises to be an exhilarating experience for any golfer.

    Mayan Palace Riviera Maya: It features traps of radiant, white sand, lakes surrounded by natural rocks and the intense color of the greens .The extraordinary natural landscape featuring lakes and native Mayan vegetation all make for a challenging yet beautiful golf course.

    Cozumel Country Club: The Cozumel Country Club has been carefully crafted from the surrounding mangrove marshlands and tropical rainforest to preserve its environmental integrity, as well as providing attractive challenges for players of every skill level.

    El Camaleon Mayakoba: El Camaleon Mayakoba designed by Greg Norman and offers the most beautiful ocean views. It is the first golf course in Mexico to be chosen by the PGA. They have now held the PGA Tour both in 2007 and 2008.
Getting Around
