Sudan is the largest country in Africa, and enjoys a rich culture and heritage. Although it's very difficult to obtain a visa for Sudan, if you could manage one, get in and confine yourself to the safer places around Khartoum. It will be a remarkable experience.

Warmth and hospitality is the most outstanding feature of the Sudanese people. It's not surprising if a local family invites you to stay in their home. Spend your afternoons over a glass of tea and learn about their fascinating history and traditions.

Khartoum is the national capital and a fascinating city on its own right. Take a stroll down the Nile Street and enjoy breathtaking views of the Blue Nile on one side and quaint colonial buildings on the other.

However, in view of the present political unrest around Darfur, instead of visiting Sudan, we highly recommend visiting the country directly north, Egypt. Egypt is an extremely safe destination that offers beautiful views. Visit the pyramids and spend time lounging on the beautiful beaches in the North, or take a trip to Cairo to enjoy incredible meals and first class accommodations.
