| Centered on the small river, Siem Reap is a small town that you can walk around. The name Siem Reap actually means the "defeat of Siam" — today’s Thailand. Though temples and forests around the city are one of the reasons for being in the city, Siem Reap attracts numerous visitors for its world-famous monuments nearby: Angkor wat. Some of the other tourist attractions in the city include Angkor Archaeological Park, Tonle Sap Lake, Balloon Ride, Cambodian Cultural Village and Miniature Replicas of Angkor.
Don't miss shopping for local products in the town. From hand-woven silk scarves to carvings, you'll find amazing things in the city. For souvenirs, the Old Market is the place for you. Here, you will find a mix of small crafted silver objects, traditional musical instruments, hand-woven scarves and baskets. For dining, you will find numerous options ranging fine dining to the local hole in the wall eateries. This is not all; Siem Reap is a lovely town offering great nightlife. The main street is pedestrianised and there is something for everybody. Have a cold beer, enjoy a foot massage or wander through the gift shops, you’ll enjoy it all. |
