| Home to Rajasthani architecture, the Pink City of Jaipua has long been famous among tourists as the third corner of India's "Golden Triangle". The Prince of Wales came to visit Jaipur in 1867. In order to show their hospitality, the city was painted pink and hence Jaipur’s surname: ‘the pink city’. While your visit to the city, you may find plenty of historic palaces scatterred in and aroud the city. The most famous are Hawa Mahal or Palaces of the Winds, City Palace - showing glimpses of India's glorious past and Jantar Mantar. If you are here for long vacation, don't miss Forts of Amber, Nahargarh, Jaigarh and Jal Mahal located near the city.
Along with the remnants of the old city parts, people living in the city give a colorful impression. Tribal people dressed in their traditional costumes look so beautiful and sell bangles and other handicrafts at one of the many street markets. You can also purchase beautiful jewelry in the city. When it comes to dining, Jaipur represents the true taste of India. Plenty of restaurants serving many local Punjab-style dishes and spicy meals leave you praising the food all the time. Try tandoori chicken, curries, many Rajasthani vegetarian meals and delicacies, such as 'dal-bati-choorma'. |
