Cape Town is a stunning location, tucked into the arms of a broad bay, surrounded by white-sand beaches and set against the canvas of Table Mountain. On the streets, a great variety of languages are spoken, while stalls selling all manner of crafts, food and textiles are squashed among American-style malls, European fashion boutiques, art galleries, luxury hotels, backpacker lodges and the ubiquitous chains. There is so much to do and see in Cape Town that the first-time visitor will find it difficult to fit everything in. Nevertheless, the city center itself is small and compact, and easy and pleasant to navigate on foot. Much of the nightlife activity is concentrated on a handful of popular city streets and suburbs. Long Street and Kloof Street in the city center are alive with restaurants, live music clubs, bars, coffee shops and live music clubs. |
