Rome Itinerary
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you certainly won’t be able to see it in a day. Arguably the most culturally rich city in the human world, Rome is home to innumerable landmarks. You’re definitely going to want to plan out your time there to get the most out of your experience, starting with your descent into Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. The Rose Garden Palace is an excellent hotel to start at, as well.
The Coliseum
There is no way you can visit Rome and not see the enormous amphitheater located in the center of the city. In its prime, it seated around 50,000 spectators, including Roman senate, emperors, gladiators, and citizens. This symbol of history, and probably the best representation of Roman architecture and engineering, was used mainly for entertainment and fights. Buy your tickets down the street, or through your travel agency to avoid long lines.
The Roman Forum
Originally a marketplace, the Roman Forum was, for centuries, the center of Roman life. It was the site of triumphal processions and elections, a venue for public speeches, criminal trials, and gladiatorial matches, and the heart of commercial affairs. Today it is surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient buildings, offering views over the famed hills of Rome.
Trevi Fountain
Trevi Fountain is perhaps one of the most photographed water fountains in the world. A traditional legend states that if visitors throw a coin in the fountain, they are ensured a return to Rome. Immortalized in Three Coins in the Fountain and La Dolce Vita, the Fontana di Trevi was designed by Nicola Salvi in 1732.
