Formerly known as Japan Air Charter Co., Ltd, JAL Ways (JO) was founded on October 5, 1990 and commenced operations on February 22, 1991. It was an international airline registered in Shinagawa, Tokyo. With its main hub in Tokyo’s Narita International Airport , the airline also had a secondary hub in Kansai International Airport. It joined the Oneworld alliance on April 1, 2007 and along with its sister airlines, it had written the biggest expansion story of the alliance.
Flying to 15 destinations around the world, JAL Ways operate with a fleet that includes Boeing 747-400, Boeing 777-200 aircraft and Boeing 767. Its frequent flyer program, called JAL Mileage Bank was an instant hit with the passengers. JAL Ways carried a record 32 million passengers plus 1.1 million tons of cargo during the fiscal year that ended March 31, 1999. This airline merged completely with Japan Airlines on December 1, 2010.
